Ridiculous plans to cut into the historic facade of Bolton Town Hall to build a new restaurant have been shelved by Labour councillors.
The idea was greeted with horror by conservationists who did not want to see the building damaged for the sake of the hair-brained idea.
The bonkers proposal was also rejected by taxpayers and Liberal Democrat campaigners who said that even if Bolton Council had the faintest idea of how to run a restaurant, this would be a complete waste of public money.
Westhoughton councillor David Wilkinson said: “We’re getting used to Bolton’s Labour councillors frittering away taxpayer money, but this one really takes the biscuit.
“It would have been much better to spend this money on sorting out our crumbling roads and footpaths. They only need to pay a visit to Westhoughton to see what a mess they look.
“We are delighted that there has been a u-turn on this idea at least.”
