Plans to demolish a house in Chorley Road and construct 12 five-bedroom homes on the site have been approved.

Fears were raised over the dangerous access point on a bend in the road, the increase in traffic and possible flooding issues.

But the application was approved by 12 votes to seven.

Wingates campaigner Bernadette Eckersley-Fallon said: “Residents were quite rightly concerned about the access to this site and it is a shame that councillors have decided to ignore this.”

The same applicant is also behind the plans for houses on the Windmill site, which has been left untouched ever since.
