Plans for 12 new luxury homes in the Wingates green belt have been refused by Bolton Council.
The homes would have been built on the caravan park at Ratcliffe Farm, off Wingates Lane, just over the motorway.
It is feared that if the houses were approved it would open the floodgates to more houses being built on Wingates’ last-remaining open spaces.
Wingates campaigner Bernadette Eckersley-Fallon said: “We need to protect what little open space we have left in Wingates. Not only that, but roads like the A6 are already struggling with congestion.”
The applicant has the right to appeal the decision if they wish.
