Plans for 38 houses in the green belt at the former Westhoughton Greyhound Track have been approved.

Bolton Council’s planning committee approved the plan on October 17.

The track buildings will be demolished and the new houses will take their place on the site and the surrounding land.

Planning officers had recommended the application for approval.

It emerged that shortly before the plans went before the council, trees and bushes were hacked down on the site.

Westhoughton councillor David Wilkinson objected to the plan. He said: “People talk about protecting the green belt but when an opportunity arises, they go and vote to dig up the green belt. Sadly some Labour councillors in Westhoughton supported this decision.”
