A pizza factory in Westhoughton is to create 80 new jobs as it expands its operations.

Stateside Foods, based at the Wingates Industrial Estate, has applied for permission to enlarge its bakery and build a new extension.

The company, which is a subsidiary of the German business Freiberger Group, already employs more than 1,000 people who produce pizzas for most of the big name brands in the supermarkets.

The production factory is one of the largest chilled pizza manufacturers in the UK.

Bolton Council must make a decision on the expansion plans by 24 October.

Westhoughton town councillor David Wilkinson said: “We will have to look at the plans for the new building and the extension in closer details, but the suggestion that they will create 80 new jobs has to be welcomed.”
