Fieldings Porter has committed to purchasing 100 Guardian Angel Devices to be given free of charge to those suffering with Dementia or Alzheimer’s in the Bolton area.
Developed by the Good Deeds Trust, the Guardian Angel Devices are worn by Dementia sufferers to provide the contact information of their designated emergency contact. They come in the form of a wristband, badge, keyring or bag/zip tag and are pre-programmed with the first name of the person with dementia and the telephone number of their designated emergency contact, which could be their carer, next of kin, or any other person whom they trust.
The idea is that if the wearer goes out and they get distressed, disorientated or lost, any member of the public who has a mobile phone with NFC technology (an android phone) can scan the device which will enable them to telephone the carer or loved ones of the person with dementia immediately. This enables the device wearer to be reunited with their family as quickly as possible and with the least amount of distress. It is particularly useful with early onset Dementia, where the person affected by this awful condition is still going about their day-to-day life, but is still at risk of getting distressed or confused.
To begin distribution of the Guardian Angels, Fieldings Porter are holding a free launch event on 5th September 2017 between 2-4pm at Horwich RMI, Ramsbottom Road, Horwich, BL6 5NH – free parking is available.
Carers – or indeed sufferers – can get one free device by attending the launch event at the Dementia Café run by Bolton Dementia Support. The Good Deeds Trust will make a short presentation at 2pm, followed by entertainment provided by the Dementia Café.
Those wanting a device can get one programmed to take away there and then, provided all the relevant contact information is given. All device types will be available – wristband, badge, key ring or bag/zip tag. The wristband is waterproof, so the sufferer never needs to take it off.
Donations can be made to Bolton Dementia Support on the day. Those who get a device can also choose to have a free Fire Safety Check performed by Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service.
On the day, members of the Fieldings Porter team will be available to chat to, if anyone has any questions about Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection Applications.
After the event, Guardian Angel Devices can be obtained directly from Lucy Dunning at Fieldings Porter, telephone 01204 540900 or email email@example.com.
