Collingwood Way 129 house plans DEFEATED

Collingwood Way

Plans to build 129 houses off Collingwood Way have been REJECTED after a hard-fought campaign by Westhoughton residents.

More than 270 people signed Councillor David Wilkinson’s petition against the unwanted development by Bellway Homes, while many others wrote letters of objection.

The plans, which would have caused traffic chaos, were finally defeated despite Labour urging developers to suggest more sites for up to 4,000 new houses in Westhoughton.

Councillor Wilkinson said: “This has been a hard-fought campaign by residents and we know that developers will not stop here in their bid to build thousands of houses on Westhoughton’s last remaining green fields.”

The developers could still appeal the decision.

In 2016 Bolton’s Labour-run Council put out a call to developers to encourage them to come forward with potential new housing sites across the town. Some 4,000 houses for Westhoughton have been suggested.

There are just four days left to have your say in the consultation on these plans. Click here to submit your views.
