A blocked gulley drain near Thornwell is to be cleaned in an area that has suffered from a serious flooding problem.
Bolton Council has agreed to Westhoughton councillor David Wilkinson’s requests for a blocked gulley drain to be cleared on the footpath behind Thornwell.
Bad flooding affected several residents in recent weeks. Engineers are trying to repair a culvert to get to the bottom of the cause of the flooding.
A spokesman told Councillor Wilkinson: “We suspect the gulley on the path that is blocked is connected to a United Utilities maintained pipe which is blocked by tree root ingress.”
“Until this pipe is made to function again by United Utilities then this gulley will likely to remain out of service.”
In the meantime accumulated silt will be removed from the gulley.
