A new tree has finally been planted at Diddy Bottle Park, off Church Street.

An historic tree, which had been on the site for more than 50 years, was cut down by council workers in April 2016.

Bolton Council agreed to replace the tree after a campaign by Westhoughton councillor David Wilkinson.

David said: “I’m sure the residents will be pleased to see that a new tree has been planted. It will add to the street scene when it starts to develop.”

Bolton Council initially claimed that it did not have the money in its budget to replace the tree, which had died, and no replacement had therefore been planted.
