Plans for a new micro-pub on Market Street have been approved by Westhoughton town councillors.

The micro-pub, which will also run brewery classes by day, is now one step closer to opening at 88 Market Street, the home of the former Threshers wine store.

A Westhoughton couple are hoping to open their business in the building that has laid empty since November 2009, except for a short spell when it was a pet store.

The plans will now be considered by Bolton Council for a final decision.

Westhoughton town councillor David Wilkinson said: “This is a great example of a local couple wanting to invest in our town centre and bring something a bit different. Lots of people have told me they think this will be a valuable addition to Market Street.”

Fellow councillor Derek Gradwell added: “This is a really good opportunity to fill another empty Market Street shop and it will bring more people into the town centre.”

Horwich now has has a number of micro-pubs and breweries as the trend for them across the country grows.
