David Wilkinson’s vote soars as he narrowly misses victory

David Wilkinson has narrowly missed winning the Westhoughton South ward after a huge 21.4% increase in his vote.

Despite their win, support for Labour dropped by 7%, while the Conservatives fell by 8.3% and Ukip came fourth with a fall of 2.5%.

Just 127 votes short of winning the ward, David Wilkinson said: “Thank you to everyone who supported me – your backing was truly amazing.

“We were just 127 votes short of winning Westhoughton South. An incredible uplift in our support but not quite enough to take it this time.

“Nevertheless, we will keep up the good work campaigning for a fair deal for Westhoughton and holding Labour to account.”
