Aldi’s plans for a new supermarket in Westhoughton town centre have been given the green light.
It means 40 new jobs and greater shopping choice is coming to our town.
The jobs will be advertised on the Aldi recruitment website in the coming weeks.
The supermarket pays £8.40 per hour as a starting salary for store staff, which is well above the minimum wage.
Westhoughton will also benefit from a new and bigger car park to replace the current one on Bolton Road. The supermarket has been told it must build the new car park first before starting work on the store.
Westhoughton councillor David Wilkinson supported the plans. He said: “Sainsbury’s and Lidl have already given people more shopping choice and Aldi will be good for the town too. It is another reason to keep people shopping here rather than getting in a car to go to Horwich or Leigh.”
A report into Westhoughton’s economy also found that the town can support up to four supermarkets based on the number of people who live in the area.
