Labour councillors have rejected an idea to give a new housing development a street name linked to Westhoughton’s history.
The site which is bounded by Wellington Street, Church Street and James Street, will have 28 properties on it.
The developer wants to give the new development the name “Woodvale”.
Councillor David Wilkinson, your campaigner for Westhoughton, said the new street should be given a name linked to the local area.
He said: “Bolton Council have a tendency of naming streets after no-one or nothing.
“I don’t know where Woodvale has come from. A historical name would have used a bit more imagination.”
But stony-faced Labour councillors on Westhoughton Town Council opted for the developers’ bland suggestion instead.
“Once again Labour councillors have shown their complete lack of pride in our town,” added David.
Planning permission was approved on the site last month by Bolton Council despite concerns raised by residents and Westhoughton Town Council about the mounting traffic congestion in the area.
