The former Greyhound pub at Wingates

New restaurant at former Wingates pub

A new restaurant looks set to open in the former Greyhound pub at Wingates.

The derelict pub, at the top of Church Street on the A6, is being converted into a new business thought to be a restaurant.

The conversion works have been ongoing for several months.

Westhoughton campaigner Derek Gradwell said: “It is good to see that the building will be put to good use rather than lying empty.”

Planning regulations were changed about 9 years ago by central government so that empty pubs could be quickly converted to other uses such as a restaurant, residential properties or a retail unit. Central government also removed the requirement for planning applications which is why no plans have been submitted for the former pub’s renovation.

Exactly when where the plans changed why have residents not been informed. It will cause congestion and traffic problems. What happens to the convenience store that is already there. What happen to the restaurant?

The pub could be converted into either a restaurant or retail unit without planning permissions. Don’t need another convenience store or another indian restaurant!! It should have left it as a pub or nothing at all! !

If it’s another Indian they might aswel shut up shop now it won’t be better than India Gate. If the pub decides to serve food then that is the same principle as a restaurant so can’t see it causing congestion. Either way it will look better than it does now.
