The demolition of the former Windmill pub in Wingates has been halted today.

Bolton Council bosses discovered that the developers had not  sought the permission of the planning authority despite having agreed the plan with a building control team.

Councillor David Wilkinson brought the issue to the attention of council officers and the work was halted suddenly today.

A council officer told him: “The site owner has agreed the demolition of the property with Building Control colleagues through a s.80/81 notice subject to a number of conditions.  However, they have not applied to the LPA for prior notification.  I have requested that the demolition cease until the necessary prior notification has been submitted and approved by the LPA.”

Councillor Wilkinson had expressed concerns that the 40-year-old pub was being demolished rather than trying to retain its character in the new development of houses and flats.
