Westhoughton’s fitness centre BodyTORQ has launched a Christmas appeal to help the homeless.

The business is encouraging Westhoughton residents to donate items such as gloves, hats, scarves and tinned food which will be packaged up into ‘rucksacks’ to be handed out to those in need.

Lee Hill, owner of BodyTORQ Fitness and a serving member of the Army, said: “This is something close to our heart with many ex soldiers sadly in this position.

“We think it is important to give back, especially if you are in a position to do so and I think the majority of us are fortunate enough to help by even the smallest of means.

“I intend us to do the ‘rucksack project’ and make up a certain number of back packs with basic essentials to help the homeless over the Christmas period. Once done we will pick a date to deliver them.”

Items can be donated to the fitness centre in the old Blockbusters store on School Street. The company is welcoming ant items that you would consider a help to somebody sleeping homeless in the cold over the Christmas period.

Lee added: “Next time you are out shopping just spare a couple of quid to buy something that could make a difference. Bring them to BodyTORQ and we will make up the rucksacks. We will supply the rucksacks.”
