Wingates road remains broken as pothole compensation claims stack up

A road in Wingates has been left broken despite Bolton Council’s promise to resurface it.

St John’s Avenue and Wingates Grove is in the pipeline for a big repair job after the road surface was left pothole-ridden after years of neglect by the Labour-run council.

However, despite a pledge in 2016 to sort out the road, fed up residents are still waiting.

The Liberal Democrat team has been campaigning for months for action on the road.

Wingates town councillor Bernadette Eckersley-Fallon said: “It’s about time this was sorted. Residents have waited long enough. Once again it just shows how Westhoughton is forgotten by Labour.”

It comes as it emerged that Bolton Council spent £117,232.83 compensating motorists for damage caused by potholes since 2012, according to figures uncovered by the Liberal Democrats.
